The section on pedagogical initiatives actually started me thinking about thinking.
When it comes to thinking, below are lots of examples of higher order thinking in action; however, I keep asking myself how many teach students to think about the kind of thinking they will need to do to complete the job or task i.e. ask the child to think about thinking. I have seen lots of examples where people think they are doing that but really they are just asking the student to articulate their thought process rather than think about the kinds of thinking they need to do. Multiple intelligences acknowledges that there are lots of different kinds of intelligences and provides lots of different strategies that suit the student according to the intelligence they are.
Edward DeBono's thinking hats asks students to select the best hat to solve a problem or task. This helps the student realise that they can respond to or solve problems in different ways.
I am only in the early stages of trying to work this out but it definitely has me thinking!
